What will happens on June 26, 2018.
3D Systems will terminate all product licenses for Geomagic Design products released between March, 2014 and July 2017.
- Includes Geomagic Design 16.x and later
To find out your version, go to the Home Window > Help > About and you will see a line similar to: PRODUCTVERSION 16,0,0,1056. This will tell you the version you are on.
What is happening?
3D Systems is terminating access to products licensed under the Flexera licensing system. This includes Geomagic Design 16.x and later.
Why is 3D Systems doing this?
Since 3D Systems no longer sells or supports Geomagic Design, it will not continue to provide licensing for these products.
How will this impact me? Can I keep using the software I have today?
No. The termination of the access to Flexera licensing will mean that as of June 26, 2018 you will no longer be able to use the product you have today.
What does Alibre suggest I do?
The best way to ensure continued use, and get access to new features, is to get back on maintenance and get the newest version, which uses the new licensing mechanism. To do this, you can reach out to firstname.lastname@example.org, call 877-7-ALIBRE, or reach out to your Value Added Reseller if you are outside the US or Canada.
What happens if I do nothing?
We suggest you get back on maintenance and get the latest version. We’ve had several releases since re-launching Alibre Design! By the date of the Flexera termination, we’ll be on Alibre Design 2018, which will have major component upgrades and new features. That said, we realize everyone can’t upgrade immediately.
If you do nothing, on or around June 26, 2018 you will be given a free upgrade to the first version of Alibre Design that was released in July of 2017. As of that time, it will be one major version behind what is shipping. This will mean you can migrate to Alibre Design away from Geomagic Design and continue to use the software. This does not mean you will be on maintenance, and you will not have access to further updates or customer support unless you purchase maintenance.
I have decided to get back on maintenance. Will I be penalized since I've been off maintenance?
No. Usually there is a lapsed maintenance fee. However, we want to make sure that everyone who wants to migrate can do so. For this reason, the lapse fee will be waived until the date of the Legacy Alibre Licensing Server decommission date.
